To successfully manage and protect a rhino population across many fenced game reserves in South Africa, translocations are necessary to prevent inbreeding and maintain appropriate social demographics on individual reserves. It is, therefore, an integral element to rhino conservation that we maximise the success of translocations. Boma confinement is often required, but only a small number of reserves have the funds to build these specially designed enclosures suitable for rhino. ARCC is therefore appealing for donations to help build a series of rhino introduction enclosures or “bomas” across the rhino reserves of the Eastern Cape to help care for the metapopulation.
