Helping Rhinos Spring Talk 2020

Thursday 23 July 2020

Join us for an inspirational evening that will include insights into how a night of tragedy in the Eastern Cape of South Africa inspired journeys of promise and the ultimate goal of creating a stronghold for rhino in the region.

Your evening will include:

With years of experience in treating and protecting rhino in the wild, our expert speakers will highlight the challenges and rewards of their work and demonstrate how science, technology and community collaboration is leading the recovery of rhino populations in South Africa.

A visual demonstration of groundbreaking initiatives that are changing hearts and young minds and successfully working in harmony with the more traditional eco-tourism approach to wildlife conservation.

Showing how aerial reconnaissance, as well as more traditional anti-poaching methods, is helping to protect some of the most significant and important populations of rhino in the world.

We discuss the daily challenges that must be resolved if wildlife species, their habitat and natural migratory routes are to be maintained.

Your Speakers for THE 2020 Spring Talk - Creating a Rhino Stronghold

Dr Will Fowlds has seen first-hand the bloody aftermath left by poachers and has saved many rhinos, including Thandi, from certain death. He set up ARCC (African Rhino Conservation Collaboration) whose aims, to co-ordinate effective action against the poaching scourge, clearly match his own determination and dedication.

Siseko is from the humblest of backgrounds but he aimed high! His two passions for wildlife and aviation were realised when he qualified as a commercial fixed-wing pilot and became the 'eyes in sky' for ARCC and the wildlife he so loves. His story is remarkable and truly inspirational.

Lindy Sutherland founded The Kariega Foundation out of a desire to contribute to the sustainable conservation of wildlife and the upliftment of local communities. Kariega Game Reserve is surrounded by impoverished African communities but Lindy and the Reserve are changing all that. Lindy's commitment is a positive example of what can be achieved.
