Mark heeft altijd een grote liefde voor dieren en natuur gehad. Waarbij hij nog altijd de schildpad als een van zijn lievelingsdieren ziet. Maar ook andere reptielen ziet hij graag. 

Mark reisde meermaals naar Afrika waardoor hij gegrepen werd door het uitgestrekte land en zijn vele dieren. De neushoorn voor het eerst in het wild te zien maakte diepe indruk op Mark, maar kreeg door het zien van de gevolgen van de neushoornstroperij ook een hele zwarte rand. 

Met Mark zijn enorme kennis aan IT facetten besloot hij een verschil te gaan maken, waarbij hij een website met allerlei weetjes over de neushoorn maakte en via deze zelfde website geld inzamelde om de neushoorn te steunen. 

In Zuid-Afrika deed Mark vrijwilligerswerk in verschillende takken. Zowel direct met de neushoorn als schoolprojecten met kinderen. Met zijn IT en techniek drive maakte hij hiervan vele filmpjes om mensen terug in Nederland bewust te maken van de problemen rondom neushoorn stroperij. Op een van deze vrijwilligersreizen ontmoette Mark en Simon elkaar waarna contact gelegd was. Via dit contact is samen met Marloes de Nederlandse tak van de stichting ontstaan en sindsdien is Mark lid van team Helping Rhinos. 

Mark has always had a great love for animals and nature. He still sees the turtle as one of his favorite animals. But he also likes to see other reptiles.

Mark traveled to Africa several times and was captivated by the vast country and its many animals. Seeing the rhinoceros in the wild for the first time made a deep impression on Mark, but seeing the effects of the rhino poaching also gave it a very black border.

With Mark's vast knowledge of IT facets, he decided to make a difference, creating a website with all kinds of facts about the rhino and through this same website raising money to support the rhino.

In South Africa, Mark volunteered in various branches. Both directly with the rhinoceros and school projects with children. With his IT and technology drive, he made many films to make people aware of the problems surrounding rhino poaching back in the Netherlands. On one of these volunteer trips, Mark and Simon met and contact was made. Through this contact, the Dutch branch of the foundation was created together with Marloes, and Mark has been a member of the Helping Rhinos team ever since.
