In the first of the series, you’ll be introduced to the far-away land in a hidden valley that is home to the Mazimba Berry Tree and discover how the bush babies and their special animal friends look after it. The book contains over forty real animals and you’ll meet characters like Yellow-Bill the hornbill, Shuki the baby Rhino, Fish Eagle, Tortoise and Lion. Each beautiful page is packed with photographs of real animals, montaged together to bring the story to life in an authentic setting. Unlike illustrated children’s books, the photographs aim to educate and instil an appreciation for nature in its real form. I began to tell this story to my twin daughters over twenty years ago, drawing on my memories and experiences of the African bush — with an added touch of magic! My children have all grown up to love and appreciate wildlife and it is my hope that, in reading this story, your children will also fall in love with the animals and nature on each page and get a feel for the joy of discovering an animal in the wild. Central to the story, the imaginary and magical Mazimba Berry Tree is “the last of its kind”. Sadly, the Mazimba Berry Tree mirrors the multiple endangered species today which are on the brink of extinction and are “the last of their kind”. As a small gesture to protect the natural world, proceeds from the sale of each book will be donated to wildlife charities including “Helping Rhinos” and “The Wilderness Foundation”.
